PRES-X (BEAMIT Group) and GPAINNOVA: Green Technology at the Heart of their Partnership in AM

PRES-X, a center of excellence (CoE) for research and development in finishing technologies, becomes official distributor for DLyte dry electropolishing machinery in Italy

PRES-X is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with GPAINNOVA, a Spanish company specializing in manufacturing of innovative systems for surface finishing in some of the most demanding industrial sectors: Healthcare, Automotive, Industrial engineering and Aeronautics.

PRES-X becomes therefore the testing and consulting services center in Europe for DryLyte® technology, enabling a complete range of eco-friendly services to introduce such technology based on customer’s demands.

With PRES-X, BEAMIT Group is the first to offer the complete and eco-sustainable DryLyte® service line, with a decisive leap forward to support customers in the application of strategies centered on sustainable productivity, while ensuring an integrated value chain throughout the process, from metal powder sourcing by Sandvik Group, to the highest surface finishing quality.

“We are very proud to be the first company to offer its customers an eco-sustainable solution representing a shift in high-precision finishing operations, especially for extremely hard and abrasion-resistant materials, pushing these operations to an unprecedented dimension”, states Andrea Scanavini, PRES-X President and BEAMIT Group General Manager. “At our center in Rubiera, we have already installed three machines and we are now eager to show our customers how the DryLyte® process can make production more efficient, guaranteeing extreme repeatability, reducing costs, and shortening delivery times”, assured Scanavini.

According to Pau Sarsanedas, GPAINNOVA co-founder and CEO, “The partnership with PRES-X strengthens the presence of GPAINNOVA in Italy, because it allows us to offer a better service, while boosting its growth and internationalizing our patented surface finishing technologies, DLyte and MURUA”.

“The DryLyte® finishing process, included in the technological range already available at PRES-X, completes and enhances our idea of tailor-made solutions for customers: it has been designed to revolutionize the global market. PRES-X Technology Center will be a meeting point where customers will be able to choose between tailor-made services and purchasing the most suitable system for metal processing. This strategic partnership enables PRES-X to offer a complete assistance service through skilled technicians on DLyte installations in Italy”, concludes Scanavini.

About PRES-X

PRES-X is an innovative company based in Rubiera (Reggio Emilia, Italy) working in the Additive Manufacturing sector, specialized in highly qualified post-processing solutions both for additive and traditional manufacturing: from depowdering to precision surface finishing.

In PRES-X a number of cutting-edge technologies are developed and industrialized to make post-processing more efficient, cheaper and green, covering all necessary phases in a single plant through a fully automated digital approach.

It was the first company to install a HIQ60 system by Quintus, a technology especially designed for AM components. This system performs high pressure heat treatments, with specific characteristics for a complete control of the heat cycle, enabling heat isostatic pressing (HIP) and heat treatment.

In 2020 BEAMIT Group acquired a significant stake in PRES-X.

DLYTE TECHNOLGY AT PRES-X

Titanium and complex geometries

The range of machines produced by GPAINNOVA for the treatment of titanium has a particular versatility, capable of grinding and polishing small titanium alloys, such as those aimed at the dental sector. It also provides a unique solution for many rotary and aerodynamic components or parts with complex geometries for the Aerospace industry and Automotive sector, enabling homogeneous deburring and polishing, without changing the material properties, preserving at the same time the geometry of each component. Although being electropolishing, the process does not generate oxidation and passivation of the component.

How the technology works

Inside DLyte machines installed at the PRES-X headquarters in Rubiera, components are attached to special housing systems. In most cases these supports are dragged into the basket containing the dry electrolytic media through a combination of specifically designed movements. The systems are available in several versions, in order to treat a wide range of components, and include a vibration tank and an aeration system. The system is equipped with a high-performance cathode inside the perimeter and at the bottom of the drum, to ensure uniform electric fields and, consequently, homogeneous surface results. The conductivity of dry electrolytes is guaranteed by a testing device and a precision pump with automatic adjustment, all programmed specifically on the components by PRES-X technicians.

Homogeneous finishing

The technology on which DLyte machines are based was patented in Spanish and is owned by GPAINNOVA. It is suitable for finishing processes with specific demanding requirements, in particular for delicate parts with very low dimensional tolerances and high value that must not be affected in any way. The machines operating with this technology can carry out a dry electropolishing treatment that does not use liquid electrolytes. With skills and experience of GPAINNOVA and PRES-X technicians, the DryLyte® process guarantees a more uniform finish than traditional polishing systems, without surface micro-scratches and in full compliance with the required tolerances, regardless of the conditions of the starting component.
