GPAINNOVA has reached a cooperation agreement with Open Cosmos, a company dedicated to satellite design and manufacturing.

Open Cosmos announced the details today at GPAINNOVA’s facilities in Barcelona, which from now on will also host the company’s staff. Besides working together, both organizations will participate in the creation of a high-tech laboratory for satellite manufacturing. These shared spaces will generate synergies that will enable joint projects in the future.

More than 200 new direct and indirect jobs

During the press conference, Open Cosmos has also advanced the expansion of its investment plan in Catalonia, including the investment of 10 million euros in Barcelona in the coming years and the creation of 50 highly-qualified direct jobs, attracting and repatriating talent that is now dispersed around the world —in organizations such as NASA—, and more than 150 indirect jobs.

“The essence of GPAINNOVA is to participate in highly relevant projects; we do believe that the aerospace field opens up a wide range of possibilities for us, and we have no doubt: this is a great opportunity to collaborate effectively hand in hand with Open Cosmos,” assessed Pau Sarsanedas, CEO and co-founder of GPAINNOVA.

Rafel Jordá, founder of Open Cosmos, has also positively valued the impact that his company will have in the Catalan capital: “The space industry is in full revolution, and we hope that the investments that Open Cosmos is making in Barcelona will help to catalyze the growth of the whole ecosystem with ambitious projects that will boost the existing industrial and technological fabric”.

Launch of Menut, a new satellite

GPAINNOVA and Open Cosmos’ facilities also hosted the Menut satellite, promoted by the Catalan Government and the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC). It is the first Earth observation satellite of the NewSpace strategy in Catalonia, and has been designed and manufactured by Open Cosmos. Once launched, it will also be operated by the space company.

After the presentation, Menut left Barcelona to be integrated into the SpaceX rocket, which will be launched on December 6th from the John F. Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, in the United States.
